Christmas present levels of thinking

1. There are those who buy gifts that they (the giver) like without much thought for the recipient.
2. There are those who buy gifts that they like but think the recipient may also appreciate.
3. There are those who put themselves in the mind of the recipient and buy that they think they will want or need.
4. There are those who figure out a gift that may inspire, delight or bring real happiness to the recipient.

Level zero are those who buy $ vouchers from department stores.

Childrens Poetry

Somehow, I think mum or dad may have helped with one of her poems:

SPACE
Kimberley McGuire

Saturn and Jupiter,
Pluto and Mars,
Asteroids fly everywhere,
Charon is one of the moons,
Earth is orbited by the moon.

MONOTONOUS LIFE
Kimberley McGuire

Ways we get around and work,
Habit forming humans,
In the door, out the door,
Turning, talking, two-dimensional,
Everyday life repeating itself,
Migrating from home to work,
Itinerant, finding work,
Children and adults as robots,
Everyday people, monotonous life
Some times never returning.

The tide turning

This was my best session in a few weeks. I should be happy...but its a drop in the ocean after the mother of all downturns.

Still, I'm not one to dwell on bad beats and losses...

During current Hold'em session you were dealt 279 hands and saw flop:
- 16 out of 32 times while in big blind (50%)
- 9 out of 33 times while in small blind (27%)
- 32 out of 214 times in other positions (14%)
- a total of 57 out of 279 (20%)
Pots won at showdown - 18 of 20 (90%)
Pots won without showdown - 12

Gump's poker gospel

- I shall make every attempt to enjoy every minute at the table. This game is a hobby and not a job.
- I shall never reveal my cards if given the choice.
- I shall never attempt to explain or justify a good, bad or terrible play I've made.
- I shall attempt to reinforce anyone's belief that I'm a complete and utter donk after receiving a berating for a good, bad or terrible play.
- I shall never give free information about myself that may assist my opponent decision making. This includes poker related clothes and accessories.
- I shall never berate bad players at the table or attempt to belittle them.
- I shall never try to educate the bad players at the table.
- I shall always try to conduct myself with as much class as possible and either win or lose in the style of the great Chip Reese.

Meeting the Dalai Lama

Yesterday I was fortunate enough to attend a 'talk' given by the Dalai Lama. There's something about his religion and the man himself that seems to resonate with me. I remember the first time I saw an interview with him he was nothing at all like I expected. He doesn't pretend to be be holier than though and doesn't consider himself better than anyone else, preferring to describe himself as 'a simple monk' or a teacher. In the interview, I remember the typical answer to many of the deep and meaningful questions were "Who knows?" or "I have no idea" - shortly followed by a lengthy chuckle.

When asked about how Australian can help with the Tibetan's struggle against the Chinese government, his answer went along these lines: "Why don't you fly to Tibet and just see for yourself. If all is well as the Chinese government says, then have a nice holiday, buy some trinkets then sell them back home for a tidy profit to help pay for your trip. If you should see what I see, then you'll be inspired to write to your government and try to bring about change. The choice is in your hands."

Lost in the woods

I had no idea where I was at in this hand. The flop and turn play was just horrible. Interesting how the odds change with the third player in the hand.
